THE POWER OF COLOR:
Color therapy, AKA Chromotherapy, is classified as a vibrational healing modality. Color itself is simply a form of visible light, or electromagnetic energy, that comes from the sun.
Alexander Schauss, the director of the American Institute for Biosocial Research, explains that "color has a direct physiological impact " in that the electromagnetic energy of color interacts with the pituitary gland, pineal glands, and hypothalamus, which altogether regulate the endocrine system, which controls the most basic body functions and emotional responses, such as aggression.
Professor Wohlfahrt of the German Academy of Color Science further explains the physiological response to color: Light that strikes the retinas of the eyes influences the pineal glands synthesis of melatonin, a hormone found to develop the body's output of serotonin, a feel-good neurotransmitter.
Essentially, what this proves, is that every color we perceive directly effects the balance of our mind and body.
In a study published by the International Journal of Biosocial Research, a school room was changed from white & orange with an orange rug to royal blue and light blue with grey carpet, and the fluorescent lighting was changed to full-spectrum lighting. Children were monitored before and after the color & light changes, and the results were dramatic. The systolic blood pressure of the children dropped from 120 to 100, a decrease of 17%. It was observed by teachers that the children behaved better, and were significantly more attentive. Afterward the room was put back to its original condition and the positive results quickly regressed.
We use the following colors in our programs to help children experience the power of color and how to use color to make their environments and actions more purposeful. Here's what you should know:
BLUE: is calming, a deep and strong sky blue is most tranquilizing, and it slows the pulse, deepens breathing, and lowers body temperature
GREEN: is balancing to the entire body system; histamine levels become elevated, which dilates blood vessels for greater blood flow, reduces inflammation, particularly improves the gastrointestinal system, and improves acuteness of sight
VIOLET: is a positive vibratory color because it has the highest vibration of all the colors and therefore has the ability to expel lower vibrations from the body (negativity), and inspires creativity
WHITE: is a harmonious blend of all the colors of the rainbow, protects the internal energies of the body, and has been proven to diminish severe aggression, psychological imbalances, and even diseases such as cancer
